As I was growing up it was always a tradition in my home to have a nice big family breakfast on a weekend – Saturday or Sunday morning (sometimes both). I remember as a child I’d always look forward to our weekend breakfasts. It was much nicer than simply have cereal in the mornings (which was nice), but associated with quick school morning breakfasts. Now my little one has started school for the very first time (just last week), I’m keen to carry on this family tradition with my own family. So the big weekend breakfast mornings have begun.
I rustled this omelette up very quickly on Sunday morning and it went down a treat with everyone. Protein-rich, full of yummy fresh vegetables and a little spice for extra flavour. This omelette is great for the whole family including babies and toddlers, particularly for baby-led weaning. It’s healthy and the best part – it’s a one-pot (or one-pan in this case) family meal which means less pots to wash (hassle-free)! It also makes a fab healthy breakfast for those searching for satisfying and tasty carb-free meals, so it ticks a lot of boxes! Here’s the recipe – enjoy!
Here’s a lovely, light summer muffin recipe I love and really enjoy cooking during the summer months. This savoury muffin is great for the whole family including baby so it’s definitely worth adding to your weekly meal planner! Muffins are great for baby-led weaning and as this recipe is so delicious and simple to prepare, it will be a firm favourite with everyone in the family.
The paprika in this recipe is mild and adds a distinct flavour for baby. The cheese I like to use is simple, yet effective… Cheddar cheese – a staple in everyone’s household. And if it currently isn’t in your fridge, it really should be! It’s yummy and very, very versatile! My little one loves this muffin – hope yours does too! x
So how many of you are using baby-led weaning for your little one’s weaning journey? Thinking about it, I don’t know know many mums who haven’t used baby-led weaning at some point during their weaning journey with baby. Whether they incorporated baby-led weaning into a daily routine with the traditional purees (spoon-feeding), or solely used the baby-led weaning technique – it’s a great way to get babies interested in their food.
I chose to to use both methods – traditional purees and finger foods for my little one’s daily weaning routine; it worked really well for us. The spoon-feeding was great as I had peace of mind that Aaliyah was eating her meals. The finger foods were great for experimentation – practising her pincer grip and trying different textures.
I did however notice baby-led weaning recipes didn’t leave much room for taste! Bland, steamed vegetables were great for playing around with, but not so great in the taste department. So to add some much-needed flavour to those poor, bland little cubes of veg, I’ve got a fab no-chilli chutney recipe for you to try.
My regular followers will know about one of my popular recipes for babies and toddlers – Spicy Sweet Potato Fries. Sweet potato fries are delicious and the light dusting of spices in my recipe makes for a great alternative, flavoursome finger food for babies and toddlers.
Whilst babies and toddlers enjoy the yummy taste of the sweet potato nicely complimented by the nutmeg and cinnamon, they are tasty enough for adults too! Making this finger food a great accompaniment to a family meal.
So I made this for dinner last night – Jerk Chicken with a side of Spicy Sweet Potato Fries and Corn on the Cob.
It was so easy and really tasty. Cooking the sweet potato fries alongside a main family meal means you don’t need to cook different meals for different members of the family… Whilst baby will enjoy munching on the sweet potato fries and pieces of sweetcorn (mashed if necessary), the rest of the family can enjoy a delicious Jerk Chicken meal with all of the trimmings.

I love cooking! But as a mum even I tend to have the odd evening when I simply can’t bring myself to go into the kitchen. The day has been so hectic that even cooking a simple 30 minute meal feels like a mammoth task! I AM EXHAUSTED!
On days like this, I like to keep cooking even more ‘simple, than simple’ (if that makes sense)?! So instead of heading for JustEat, I pop into the kitchen for a few minutes (I can manage that!), and cook my own ‘take-away’ from scratch. There really is nothing to it.
So, why is this meal so easy? Here are the no-hassle components:
- Garlic and Coriander naan bread – store-bought
- Bagged/ pre-washed sweet crunchy salad – fresh, cut and ready to eat
- Mint yogurt sauce – takes 2 minutes to throw together
It looks like a takeaway….

In part one I showed you how to make Sweet Zesty Carrot Pancakes by adding naturally sweet ingredients and spices to a very simple everyday pancake recipe, your little one will simply adore! In part 2 I’m cooking savoury Carrot and Cumin Pancakes. As mentioned it’s really important to allow your baby to experience lots of different tastes and flavours (sweet and savoury) during the weaning process so you should definitely give this one a go too!
These savoury pancakes have more of an Asian influence using aromatic spices cumin and coriander. In fact, you can even cook this pancake using gram flour (besan flour) instead of plain flour. Gram flour is made from chickpeas and is the main flour used for pakora batter. It is however a little heavy, and I personally think it may be a little too heavy for a 7-8 month old. So, I’d recommend cooking gram flour pancakes as a quick after school kids snack for older children.
This plain flour savoury pancake batter is light and perfect for tiny little mouths – whether they have tiny teeth or not.
